If you send me your email address to h-l-mcl@bigpond.net.au I will send you an invitation to view my Ancestry tree. I know that Ernie Bridge who was an MP & lived in WA had Aboriginal ancestry. If you can find the "Joseph Bridge Family History Society" they have just about everything there is to know about Joseph & Elizabeth's descendants. Here is an internet link to get you started: http://trees.ancestry.com.au/tree/96752 ... 5?pg=32810

Hope this helps. Cheers, Helen

I may be able to add something to this but would have to check my sheets (I am doing up a family Tree for a friend who has a lot of ancestors in the Hunter Valley) I doubt very much whether Joseph and Elizabeth were married - I have been able to locate records, and Elizabeth was sentenced again as Elizabeth Buffey after her children were born - they had all been placed in the orphanage by this stage. For some reason she was not sent to Port Macquarrie but released in Sydney and i am trying to find those records to find out why she was released. Any suggestions?

Thanks for that margaret - it adds a bit more to what i had squeezed out - i have been doing research for a friend and had come across some information with relation to her ex-husband's family - which goes back to quite a number of convict lines (including the Bridge family) My own families (Caldwell and Cleaves didn't come into your area until later in the 19th Century- but nevertheless now that i have found you i must search for them too.)

I have Sarah Ann Bridge in my family tree, b. 25th march 1843 Wollombi, d. 28th September 1920, Cooranbong. Sarah Ann Bridge, daughter of Benjiman & Sarah.

Married James Stephen Masters, brother of Elizabeth Masters from whom my mother inlaw is descended.

There was a James Masters living at Martinsville in the early 1900's as I've seen his name on maps - do you think I can find his name now.

After receiving a private message about the BRIDGE family, I was just reviewing the messages that had been posted, when I remembered that the Historical Society have one of the published booklets from the Joseph BRIDGE society.

I shall bring it home Wednesday and scan it, can't remember how relevant it is, or the dates covered, but there may be information there.

Please PM me to ask for a copy, as I don't think it would be appropriate to post the full account on the forum.

I have only just found this post but Ben Bridge was in my family tree. He was the son of My ancestor Sarah Payne from Payne's Crossing near Wollombi. She married Joseph Bridge.

Ben Bridges story was documented in 'Payne Family Reunion' book which was authored by June Reeks and her cousin Janice. June is now deceased but some of her work is in the history society at Raymond Terrace.

He led a colourful life and although not a bushranger he was a noted horseman and raced at contry meets all over the place. The story I know is that he escaped from Goulburn jail when it burnt down and the police didn't persue him because they thought if he escaped the fire then he should go free.

If you want more on the subject I can find some contacts for you.
