Hi Sally,

Polly Parker was Mary Jane Bird, when her father died she took on the name of her mothers new partner Robert Hinton who died in Inverell 2nd October 1891.
His stepdaughter Mary was the informant on that certificate.
Polly then had a relationship with a Joseph Parker and known as Polly Parker, I have not been able to find a certificate of marriage.
Polly had two boys Edward and John these two boys had the Hinton name even on their marriage certificates to the Benson sisters, after their marriages the boys changed their name from Hinton to Parker as there was some upset between the Hinton family.
John Married Clara May Benson and Edwards married Florence Benson.( have dates and certificates)
Florence at a later date married Henry Allen.
There was never any information regarding the stolen generation as the family was very supportive, especially between Louisa and Polly. If I am wrong about this, I would like the proof please.
When I update all the new information I will send out to all.
Thanks Des for you email.
Regards to all
Joan

Hi Des,

At the moment I have all this information running around in my head as you can imagine I am buzzing.
I am still researching the
Allen family.
Henshaw (Hanshaw) family, I grew up three doors away from Grannie Hanshaw, ne Catherine Allen.
I have almost all of the Wetherill family tree dating back to 1800's
Eva May Blake was my Grandmother. this is a long story which I will relate in more detail at another date.. She had three children before she married William Blake,( my father was nearly two when Eva went off to Petersham in Sydney to Marry him) had two legitimate children to William Blake,
then three children (illigitimate), to another partner after that. I have names dates certificates.
Just too much to write in this forum.

G'day
Lots of great information that I'm still working through and putting on Family Tree Maker - is there any information on John (Jack) the younger brother of Louisa and Mary-Jane; I assume he stayed with Jane and his sisters and went to Inverell.
My Great Great Grandmother Annie Bella / "Bella" Bird stayed around the Goondiwindi -Boomi - Mungindi area and later died near Mungindi.
The older brother Charles William / "Charlie" Bird also stayed around the Goondiwindi area and worked on properties near Talwood and Nindigully - at one stage (1929 and again in 1930) the good people of Talwood tried to remove Charles and his family them along with 30 others from the Aboriginal camp. The Queensland Government sent inspectors out who declared the Aboriginal families were all good people who looked after their children and were working on local properties - they could see no reason to move the families. Later in the early 1930's, when Charlie and his wife Theresa were in their 70's, the Queensland Government did suggest that they be moved to Barambah [Cherbourg] due to age/health concerns, but it is unclear if this order proceeded. If so, it was only for a short period as Charlie died at Nindigully in 1939 while Theresa stayed around Talwood/Thallon until her death in 1959 at the age of 95.

Cheers,

Des.

Hi Des,

When William Bird died and Jane commenced a relationship with Robert Hinton, (the Hintons came from England.) Louisa, Mary Jane and John ( John being only 4 years of age) appeared to take on the HInton name as it was mentioned in a number of certificates. Jane, Robert and the above three children lived at Myall Creek and Inverell. Louisa was known as Louisa Ann Hinton and Mary Jane was also called Hinton.
Charles and Bella apparently kept the name of Bird and integrated into a aboriginal community.
So there seemed to be a rift in the family at that time.
When speaking to my father William Blake (Allen/Bird) he always mentioned his grandmother (Louisa,
he lived with her on and off over many years) Polly (Mary Jane) is Aunty Louisa,( my mum and dad lived with Aunty Louisa also) Aunty Ethel, Uncle Ernie the Bensons and the Bourkes but he never mentioned anything about his grandmothers siblings.
I have looked for a John Bird but have not found anything, so I will start to look for a John Hinton.
I have a couple of queries from the email you sent me Des, but will send an email to you shortly,
I am waiting for a relative removed to return from overseas as she has completed the Benson family tree.
She may be able to add more info for us.
Regards
Joan

Hi Joan

Thanks for this info - there are a couple of possibilities, including:

- John BIRD, died Narrabri 1925 (NSW Death # 19166/1925) with Parents Robert and Jane?
- John BIRD, died in Qld 1900 (Qld Death # 1900/C4095) with parents William Bird and Jane Armstrong?

There is also a Jack/John BIRD mentioned in various correspondence relating to Aboriginal people in Queensland but I am fairly sure this relates to the son of Charles & Theresa.

Cheers,

Des.

Thanks Des,

The first one looks promising as Robert and Jane were together when John was only four.
Most of the time they lived in North West NSW.

There are some very famous portraits, done by convict artists, of close relatives of William Burd - like this one of Biraban.

Hi all
I am new to this entire forum thing, so have no idea if this will end up on the page I was just looking at. Have already spoken with Joan and Des. My great great grandmother was Mary Bird, father William Bird. I spent 10 years looking for my Pop's family (George Verner Lloyd Parker- father John Bird / Hinton /Parker) before finally finding out about the name changes, which made the search impossible for so long. Thank-you to everyone who has filled in more blanks for me. I am always keen for more information and glad to help any way I can. Amazing so many people have been chasing the same family. Marnie.
