ABERMAIN HERITAGE PRESERVATION SOCIETY PO Box 49 ABERMAIN NSW 2326 General Meetings are held at 7.30pm on the second Tuesday of each month (except January) at the School of Arts, Abermain. Abermain is a village on the South Maitland Coalfield in the Lower Hunter Valley of New South Wales, Australia. The village was established in 1903 when the colliery commenced working the rich coal deposits that outcropped in the area. The Society doesn't have a museum or permanent space, but publishes a quarterly journal called "The Pit Whistle" which is sent to members. Membership is $15 per person. COALFIELDS HERITAGE GROUP c/- 36 Gillies Street KURRI KURRI NSW 2327 Phone/Fax (02) 4937 4418 Email: band8229@bigpond.net.au Secretary: Brian Andrews The Edgeworth David Museum, headquarters of the Coalfield Heritage Group is located in the grounds of Kurri Kurri High School, and is located in Deakin Street opposite Greta Street. Admission is free with donations acceptable. The museum is open every Sunday, Wednesday and Public Holidays throughout the entire year. The museum houses the Comerford Library & Archives, which contain family research facilities as well as the history of some 80 Lower Hunter towns and over 400 northern coal mines. All is contained in over 800 binders filled with some 250,000 pages of information - World War One for the Hunter Valley is a feature. The Group does not provide a research service but attempts to answer enquiries. Family history researchers are encouraged to use the facilities at the museum themselves with guidance by volunteers. TOMAREE FAMILY HISTORY GROUP INC Nelson Bay NSW 2315 Secretary: Marilynne Sharp Phone (02) 4981 0177 email: lynne1948@hotmail.com This Group was formed in January 2000 by a number of people in the Nelson Bay area, prepared to share knowledge and assist others with research in genealogy and family history. In July 2000 the Group joined the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre. In late 2001 the Group moved from the Arts Centre to the Library in the Tomaree Community Centre, (Town Centre Crt., Salamander Bay) where monthly workshop meetings are held in the auditorium on the 1st Saturday of each month (except January). The Group is affiliated with the Royal Australian Historical Society and was incorporated in November 2002. Annual membership fees are $30 and a meeting fee of $4 per person or $6 per couple is charged. A resource room containing books, magazines, CDs and microfiche, has been established in the Community Centre and is open during workshop meetings, and at other times as advised. Use of the resource room is free to members. A $5 donation per session is requested from non-members. A monthly newsletter is distributed to members and to kindred organisations by email or by post if no email address.
